SWISS RE ANNUAL COMMUNITY SPORTS AND SOCIAL COMMITTEE RECEPTION
On Wednesday 10 February 2010, the Swiss Re Norwich Community, Sports and Social Committee invited representatives from a number of local organisations to its annual Community Reception held at the Dog House bar near their Colegate Offices.
This was a fantastic opportunity for staff from Swiss Re to mingle with the organisations supported through its Community programme and to discuss how charitable and volunteering contributions made during 2009 had been put to use in enhancing their work.
The guests were welcomed by Brian McPhail, Customer Services Executive, who explained the Swiss Re commitment to working with local organisations for the benefit of the community.
Matthew Burrell, Chairman of the Committee thanked Jess Down from the East Anglian Air Ambulance for their help and support as Staff Charity of the Year in 2009. Through this partnership, staff at the Norwich site had raised over £8,000 for the organisation.
The Big-C Appeal were introduced as Swiss Re's Staff Charity of the Year for 2010 following a staff vote and the Committee has pledged to raise £5,000 for them during the year as part of the Big C 30 for 30 business initiative. Sharon Hulbert from Big-C was presented with the first donation towards that target.
Finally, presentations were made to all the organisations that were runners up in the staff vote, EACH, RNLI Cromer, Benjamin Foundation, The MS Society, Red Balloon Learner Centre, Norfolk Eating Disorders Association, Bryan Gunn's appeal and Nelson's Journey.
