Marsh UK's Martin South named 'Insurance Broking CEO of the Year'

Martin South, CEO of Marsh UK, was named the 'Insurance Broking CEO of the Year' in Reactions Magazine's London Market Awards 2010, announced recently.

Mr South received the award in recognition of his leadership in transforming Marsh UK, including the successful acquisition of HSBC Insurance Brokers. 
 
The Reactions London Market Awards recognise the achievements of the best insurance, reinsurance and broking teams in the London insurance market, as well as the efforts of service providers and outstanding individual contributions to the industry. 
 
Mr South said: "This award belongs to all my colleagues in Marsh UK. Our business has undergone a significant period of transition, resulting in greatly improved profitability and revenue growth. Our acquisition of HSBC Insurance Brokers earlier this year is further testament to our determination to serve our clients with the very best products and solutions tailored to their particular needs.

Martin South is Chief Executive Officer of Marsh Ltd, a position he took up in February 2007. 
 
Born in Africa in 1965, he was raised and educated in the United Kingdom. He joined the Minet Group in 1983, moving in 1985 to Marsh & McLennan Companies' UK broking unit, C T Bowring (later to become Marsh).  
 
He left Marsh in 1996 as a Senior Vice President in its wholesale broking unit to join Zurich Re before becoming CEO of Zurich's London operations in 2000. 
 
Between 2004 and 2006 he was CEO of International Businesses at Zurich Financial Services and a member of the Group Management Board, responsible for all of Zurich's operations outside North America and Europe. His responsibilities included developing the strategy and vision for these businesses, with a particular focus on China and longer-term value creation. 
 
Mr South is a current member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders.
